The Nuclear Red Herring: Iran's black energy versus the Greens

Frankly, I wish it were true! I strongly think it is not!
Why? Because even IAEA admits no material is introduced to this site (i.e. it is not even tested or operational yet!) Nuclear Energy has always been Ahmadinejadist's mask for conducting other masked economic/political activities.

Yes they have a building maybe--which is what Ahmadinejad and Iran's nuclear official Salehi is admiting. But even Ahmadinejad has emphasized that the IAEA can come visit anytime they want!

What may be going on?

Is it Ahmadinejad, who didn't get enough media attention with the Holocaust; and is now using the nuclear issue to derail attention from his internal problems?

Or is it Mujahedin-e Khalagh who betrayed Iran again; playing both of Iran's enemy's hands; and forcing Ahmadinejad's hand by tipping off this "secret" site? I consider Mujahedin-e-Khalgh to be another side of the same ideological coin on which Ahmadinejad exists.

The treason of Mujahedin-e Khalgh, in my view is:

1) derailing their compatriots struggle for democracy; stealing attention from Iran's green movement and pushing them into "silence".

2) putting Ahmadinejad in spotlight--of which he was shunned away in a shameful way, as indicated by empty seats as he delivered his speech at the UN

3) helping the war-sanction seekers' drums become even louder

Is it after Mujahedin's report that Ahmadinejad's tried to turn the table in his favor: coming forth and making official announcement about the site; getting press coverage; and keeping a poker face assuming Obama's not going to press him with sanctions ... (the letter to IAEA was sent on Sept 21; The Mujahedin's whistle blowing took place on Sept 24, the same day that Ahmadinejad spoke at the UN, and the media conference of Salehi happened on Sept 25, after Mujahedin announcement and Ahmadinejad's speech.)

Or is it after Ahmadinejad was humiliated by speaking to empty UN seats that he decided to squeeze himself into political tabloids? Let's not forget he is facing a HUMILIATING return to Iran--especially since Russia had already promised to support sanctions. So, didn't he need to ratchet up the drama a bit to make himself look like the "strong but victimized hero" after meeting with 5+1??

This situation is depressive ... simply depressive ... every side we look, we find MAD MEN who are using us, ordinary Iranians, smart Iranians, brilliant Iranians, peaceful Iranians, humane Iranians, as the gambling chip on the power table ...

  • Sanctions will only hurt ordinary people of weakest socioeconomic opportunities
  • War ... with these assymetric war gurus who have already the victory of fighting the Iran-Iraq war empty handed and kicking out Saddam?? These people (Ahmadinejad's IRCG) LOVE war, seek war!
  • Sanctions and war will only strengthen the underground economy--which is the main battle field of Ahmadinejad and his IRCG cronies; the real reason for "reformist/Hashemi" bashing of the past 8 years
  • Sanctions and war will only blanch our Green movement
  • George Bush handed our reformist movement to Ahmadinejad once with putting us in the axis of evil. Obama, Sarkozy and Brown delivered a new blow ... (Thank you "freedom loving a$$h@les" ...)

Or is this another chess move? Putting the west in a corner to sell them fuel, or else ...

I think the government of Iran announced the existence of a new site this Monday. To me it sounds like a tool to cause the world power to accuse Ahmadinejad and talk about harsher sanctions and even military actions against Iran. Ahmadi is going to use that in Iran to shut down all the opposition leaders and people. Don't forget that outside threats is a tool for them to unify people and opposition leaders. You asked an excellent question BTW. Love your blog.

Salaam, هزاردستان چمن

Yes; I agree.
Doesn't it baffle how all these opposing forces work in collusion, with a mask of peace and prosperity, to war monger and hold us back--every time we make a LEAP in history. Why would Obama walk into this trap (Sanctioning Iran--that will only starve and kill ordinary people of the weakest SES ...

It is shameful that even Obama steps into MA's trap. (I did not expect others in the political arena to react wiser..)
I am sure Obama has learnt his history lessons, but fails to put them into practice at this moment.
I think you two (Mina and Naj) should have a chat in the oval office and explain how it really works..
If you are there please take the opportunity to stress the number one priority on world security issues: The Israeli problem. Without progress here there will be no answers to any issue, for any country in the ME and outside.
So for me, all the problems and questions in the ME (and consequently the world)evolve around this central theme: The Palestinian/Israeli problem. It would surely help if something fundamentally changes in the AM/EU policy towards Israel. Who has the guts..It is time to move...

See here also, Naj.

A couple of more links, Naj, from some fairly well-followed sources: here and here [which you may have read already, I'm sure.] Such matters sometimes take a few days to stabilize in the sense that we get a clearer view of where things really stand.

Thanks Gene, The Holocaust Trap, I already wrote about

MArtin, you are right, the Israeli issue the BEST excuse Ahmadinejad has to rub Western hypocrisy in the world's face.

Bizarrly enough: Ahmadinejad is HELPING Israel--which is run by war mongers as well.

Dear Naj, dear Martin Wijn,

you are terribly right !

[Adolf still takes revenge on reason and humanity:]

If the Israeli-Palestine question were solved, Iran might possibly find it easier to become a normal state with normal political procedures and with normal politicians at the helm:

The Palestine conflict displays enormous impact beyond the participants directly involved in that conflict, because many states in that region are often creations of the colonial period. Most people living there possess several identities at the same time. In addition to their nationality they regard themselves e.g. as Arabs and of course as Muslims. They sympathize and identify with the Palestinians, with their suffering, being Arabs and Muslims. They thus feel humiliated, too.

The Israeli-Palestine conflict impedes and prevents reforms and radicalizes the societies in that region. Unexcited rational debates about reforms cannot take place, as these need a sufficient number of moderate, "liberal" political activists, capable to make compromises instead of separating the world simplistically into black and white.

Another negative effect has been that states in that region aiming at playing a domineering role use the Israeli-Palestine conflict as a lever for possibly other aims. Similarly as once Nasser trying to establish himself as the pan-Arabic leader, Iran offers itself as an uncompromising, unconditional fighter for the cause of Palestine.

Now the IRI quasi “invades” the Arabian societies ideologically by using the Palestine question as a lever, imposing itself as THE credible trustee of the Palestinian cause.

Iran’s interests might probably be not closer ties to Venezuela and sub-Saharan Africa, but closer links to Europe. The anti-Israeli rhetoric of president Ahmadinejad demanding the eradication of Israel from the world map of nations is a major obstacle to that. This rhetoric is not addressed to the West, but to the Near East Arab audience, trying to win their hearts.

The radicalizing process due to the Israeli-Palestine conflict results in destabilization. Religio-political groups use the Palestine question as a pretext to organize their opposition against their governments, reproaching them for their inadequate commitment to the Palestinian cause. Thus the question of inner security becomes prevalent.

It is a mistake to downgrade the Israeli-Palestine question to a mere local conflict. With the humiliating defeat in 1948 against Israel the Arab governments somehow lost their legitimation. Thus the then governments were replaced by military dictatorships. Later, in the wake of the likewise humiliating defeat of the Arabian armies in the Six-Day War in 1967 and in the wake of constant failure of the Arabic states, the rise of political Islam (Jihad) commenced, suicide bombings included.

Germany, Europe, and hopefully the United States ought to do their considerable “bit” of duty to CAUTIOUSLY, PEACEFULLY, PRUDENTLY and WISELY influence the political process, having done so much harm so far.

After World War II the European nations and the USA, though victorious, didn't destroy culpable Germany, but generously and with a view to their own long-term interests quickly, efficiently helped Germany get going again.

One of the reasons being possibly the experience that the harsh treatment meted out to Germany in the First World War led to a Germany becoming extremely radicalized, i.e. Nazi.

The result of friendly restraint and titanic reason observed towards defeated Germany by the victorious Western Allies: Europe, i.e. the realization of "the European Dream".

Why does reason not lead Western countries and victorious Israel to follow this experience ?

The reasonable (as has sufficiently been proved by now) majority in Iran now unfortunately has to bear the brunt, willing to come to terms with that inextricable situation on its own.

A verily bitter truth - in particular, when knowing that the ultimate cause for this mess is former Nazi-Germany.

Post Scriptum:

- It's worse than I thought -

"A textbook example of what democracies should not do was provided last year by a joint venture between Siemens and Nokia, called Nokia Siemens Networks.

It sold the Iranian regime a sophisticated system with which they can monitor the internet, including emails, internet phone calls and social-networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, much used by Iranian protesters. In today's politics of people power, that is the equivalent of selling a dictator tanks or poison gas.

So, to be clear: a German company, Siemens, which used slave labour during the Third Reich, sold a Holocaust-denying president the instruments with which he can persecute young Iranians risking their lives for freedom. Think of that every time you buy something made by Siemens."
